Dr. Carla Brown, scientist turned social entrepreneur has dedicated her career to the development of innovative digital media for science and health education. Carla’s background is in microbiology and during her PhD at University of Glasgow, her research focused on the development of new antibiotics from human gut bacteria. It was during her PhD studies that Carla identified a need for alternative tools to educate on antibiotic resistance and designed an innovative gaming app, Bacteria Combat. Fueled by the success of this project, she then designed Poo Racer, a racing app to educate on the human gut at Centre of the Cell, Queen Mary University London. These exciting projects lead her to launch Game Dr. where she continues to investigate different types of persuasive media for STEM engagement.
Siam Colvine, social entrepreneur and creative director of Game Dr, has dedicated her career to the development of highly persuasive digital media. With a background in Fashion Design for Industry (BA Hons), Siam’s expertise lies within filmmaking and design. Siam now uses her creative talents to produce innovative films, games and media to engage the public with science and mental health. Her recent work has tackled the problems of OCD and antibiotic resistance.
